The Season of Pentecost
Happy Father's Day!
Prelude

Think About His Love
arr. by Mark Hayes

Prayer

O merciful Father, in compassion for your sinful children you sent your son Jesus Christ to be the Savior of the world. Grant us grace to feel and to lament our share of evil that made it necessary for him to suffer and to die for our salvation. Help us by self- denial, prayer, and meditation to prepare our hearts for deeper penitence and a better life. And give us a true longing to be free from sin, through the deliverance won by Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen

Scripture

Luke 15:1-2 NIV
The Parable of the Lost Sheep
15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Luke 15:11-32 NIV
The Parable of the Lost Son
11 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.
13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
28 “The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

The Lost Sons

People were grumbling about the kind of people Jesus was associating with. “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them” said the religious leaders. Jesus told three stories in response to this to explain to them what God, their Heavenly Father is really like.  He told a story about a shepherd that lost a sheep and leaves 99 of his sheep to go and find the lost sheep. On finding the lost sheep there is great rejoicing! He tells another story about a woman who lost a very valuable coin and looks and looks for it and finally find it. Again, there is great rejoicing! Then he tells a story about a man who has two sons. One is lost by what he does, and another is lost by what he doesn’t do. The Father loves them both! The Father’s call to come home is still being extended this Father’s Day. Will you come?

Good, Good, Father
Chris Tomlin, by Anthony Brown and Pat Barrett

Oh, I've heard a thousand stories of what they think you're like. But I've heard the tender whispers of love in the dead of night. And you tell me that you're pleased and that I'm never alone.

Refrain:

You're a good good father. It's who you are, it's who you are, it's who you are. And I'm loved by you. It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am.

2. Oh and I
've seen many searching for answers far and wide. But I've known that we're all searching for answers only you provide. 'Cause you know just what we need before we say a word.
[Refrain]

Bridge
Because you are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us
You are perfect in all of your ways (2x)
You are perfect in all of your ways to us

3. Oh, this love so undeniable. I, I can hardly speak. Peace so unexplainable. I, I can hardly think, as you call me deeper still, as you call me deeper still, as you call me deeper still
Into love, love, love [Refrain]

Come Back Quickly To The Lord UMH 343
Words: Young Taik Chun, Music: Jae Hoon Park
arr. by Brian Turner

TUNE: KOREA

Come back quickly to the Lord,
Just come back to the Lord.
Though how grave your sins may be,
or how burdensome they seem,
there is no sin he cannot bear,
nor sinner not accept,
for the bosom of our loving Lord is much greater than all the skies.

Go into the world with Peace.
Love and Serve your Lord.
May His love and mercy
burn brightly in your heart!
