Sermon Series:  Praying the Psalms
The Season of Kingdomtide

Upward I Lift Mine Eyes
Words: Isaac Watts  Music: John Darwall
Darwall’s 148th

Upward I lift mine eyes,
From God is all my aid;
The God who built the skies,
And earth and nature made,
God is the Tower
To which I fly;
His grace is nigh
In every hour.

My feet shall never slide
And fall in fatal snares,
Since God, my Guard and Guide,
Defends me from my fears.
Those wakeful eyes
That never sleep
Shall Israel keep
When dangers rise.

No burning heats by day,
Nor blasts of evening air,
Shall take my health away,
If God be with me there.
Thou art my Sun,
And Thou my Shade,
To guard my head
By night or noon.

Hast Thou not given Thy word
To save my soul from death?
And I can trust my Lord
To keep my mortal breath.
I'll go and come,
Nor fear to die,
Till from on high
Thou call me home.
Prayer
Our heavenly Father, we your humble children invoke your blessing on us, We adore you, whose name is love, whose nature is compassion, whose presence is joy, whose Word is truth whose Spirit is goodness, whose holiness is beauty, whose will is peace, whose service is perfect freedom, and in knowledge of whom stands our eternal life. Unto you be all honor and all glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Scripture
Psalm 121
A Song of Ascents

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains--
    where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip--
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you--
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm--
    he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.
Let God Help You!
The 121 Psalm is part of The Song of Ascents or the Pilgrim Psalms that were sung by the Jewish pilgrims on the way to the hills of Jerusalem for one of the annual feasts. This Psalm expresses assurance and hope in God’s protection day and night. How do you need the Lord’s help? We never outgrow our need for God’s untiring watch over our lives.

Praise You in This Storm
By: Bernie Herms and Mark Hall

I was sure by now, God, you would have reached down and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say, "amen,"
and it's still raining.
And as the thunder rolls I barely hear your whisper through the rain,
"I'm with you." And as your mercy falls,
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away.

Chorus:
And I'll praise you in this storm and I will lift my hands for you are who you are,
no matter where I am.
And every tear I've cried you hold in your hand you never left my side.
And though my heart is torn,
I will praise you in this storm.

I remember when I stumbled in the wind.
You heard my cry to you, you raised me up again. My strength is almost gone. How can I carry on if I can't find you?
But as the thunder rolls I barely hear you whisper through the rain, I'm with you.
And as your mercy falls, I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away.

[Chorus]

I lift my eyes unto the hills.
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
The maker of heaven and earth.
I lift my eyes unto the hills.
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The maker of heaven and earth.
You are my help.

[Chorus]

What A Friend
arr. Turner
We bless you, God of Seed and Harvest
And we bless each other
that the beauty of this world
and the love that created it
might be expressed though our lives
and be a blessing to others
Now and always
