My soul gives glory to my God.
My heart pours out its praise.
God lifted up my lowliness
In many marvelous ways.

Take Time to Be Holy
set to SLANE

Words: William D. Longstaff
Music: Trad. Irish Melody SLANE

Take time to be holy,
speak oft with thy Lord;
abide in him always,
and feed on his word.
Make friends of God's children,
help those who are weak,
forgetting in nothing
his blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy,
the world rushes on;
spend much time in secret
with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus,
like him thou shalt be;
thy friends in thy conduct
his likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy,
let him be thy guide,
and run not before him,
whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow,
still follow the Lord,
and, looking to Jesus,
still trust in his word.

Take time to be holy,
be calm in thy soul,
each thought and each motive
beneath his control.
Thus led by his spirit
to fountains of love,
thou soon shalt be fitted
for service above.
Prayer

O God of all times and places, we pray for your Church, which is set today amid the perplexities of a changing world, and face to face with new tasks. Baptize her afresh in the life- giving spirit of Jesus. Bestow upon her a great responsiveness to duty, a swifter compassion with suffering, and an utter loyalty to your will. Help her to proclaim boldly the coming kingdom. Put upon her lips the ancient gospel of her Lord. Fill her with a prophet’s scorn of tyranny, and with a Christlike tenderness for the heavy laden and downtrodden. Bid her cease from seeking her own life, lest she lose it. Make her valiant to give up her life to humanity, that, like her crucified Lord, she may mount by the path of the cross of a higher glory; through the same Jesus Christ           our Lord. Amen

Scripture
Daniel 6:1-13 NIV
Daniel in the Den of Lions

6 It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, 2 with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss. 3 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4 At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. 5 Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.”

6 So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: “May King Darius live forever! 7 The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. 8 Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” 9 So King Darius put the decree in writing.

10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. 11 Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. 12 So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human being except to you, Your Majesty, would be thrown into the lions’ den?”
The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.”
13 Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.”
In The Lion’s Den
Daniel faces quite a dilemma. There is an edict that no one should pray to anyone but the King for 30 days. Daniel has faithfully served the Lord as a Jew in captivity in Babylon for many years. He is about 80 years old when his habit of praying three times a day is reported by his enemies. The sentence is to spend a night in the Lion’s Den. Are you ever so stressed that feel that you are figuratively speaking “in the lion’s den?” Daniel chapter 6 shows us that’s a great time to pray!

I Am Not Alone
by Davis, Fieldes, Jobe, Pittman, Sampson, and Sauder

When I walk through deep waters
I know that You will be with me.
When I'm standing in the fire.
I will not be overcome.
Through the valley of the shadow.
I will not fear.

Chorus:

I am not alone. I am not alone
You will go before me.
Y
ou will never leave me.
I am not alone. I am not alone.
You will go before me.
You will never leave me.

In the midst of deep sorrow
I see Your light is breaking through.
The dark of night will not overtake me
I am pressing into you
Lord, You fight my every battle.
Oh, and I will not fear.

[Chorus]

You amaze me, redeem me.
You call me as Your own.
You amaze me, redeem me.
You call me as Your own.

You're my strength.
You're my defender.
You're my refuge in the storm.
Through these trials
You've always been faithful.
You bring healing to my soul.

[Chorus]
